Accommodative Services

The College Libraries partner with Accommodative Services to provide support to students with disabilities; please contact Accommodative Services for more information on resources available in the Libraries, some of which require pre-registration with the Accommodative Services office.

Parking and Building Access

• PDF of campus parking map with parking lots listed by number
• Crumb Library (located in the Lougheed Learning Commons): Accessible parking is available adjacent to the north side of the building in parking lot 4 with an accessible ramp and automatic door at the parking lot.
• Crane Library (located in Schuette Hall): Park on the west side of Schuette Hall in parking lot 6. A walkway from lot 6 leads to the ground floor entrance of Schuette, where a ramp entrance and an elevator leads to the Crane Library on the second floor. Alternatively, take the long ramp up the left side of Snell Hall to the Crane Plaza.  Entrance to Schuette Hall is on the left and the Crane library, which comprises the entire floor, has doors straight ahead on that floor.

Elevators

• The elevator for Crumb Library, located in the lobby of the Lougheed Learning Commons, is small with a 36-inch door and a car with a usable space of approximately 40 by 48 inches.  For users with larger mobility devices, arrangements can be made for first floor group study space and re-location of library instruction sessions from the second floor classroom to an accessible space.  Please contact library@potsdam.edu to discuss your needs.
• The Crane library is the middle of the 3 floors of Schuette Hall and has no elevator within the library, though there is one directly opposite and just outside the library doors (very large, can accommodate any size mobility device).

Restrooms

• Crumb Library: Accessible restrooms are located on the first floor to either side of the elevator – men’s to the right and women’s to the left.
• Crane Library: Accessible restrooms are located off of the reading area across from the Crane Book Stacks.

Accessing Library Materials

Physical Materials

All members of the College community can request books, DVDs, and other physical materials in our collections using the Libraries Materials Pick-up (LaMP) service in the library catalog (BearCAT). Patrons will receive an email when their materials are available for pick up at the circulation desk in the appropriate library (Crane circulation desk for Crane materials, Crumb circulation desk for Crumb materials). 

Electronic Materials

Our electronic collections should be, and by SUNY EIT policy must be, accessible to our users.  We work with, and will advocate for changes to, our vendors about the databases and products that we license.  If you are having difficulty, or have suggestions or if you require support, please email library@potsdam.edu

Items/Scans from Other Libraries

If we do not have an item in our libraries, you may request that we get it for you using our Resource Sharing or Interlibrary Loan services.  Please note any OCR needs at the time of request and our Interlibrary Loan specialist will make sure that any materials received in electronic form (e.g. articles or book chapters) are OCR readable.

Research Assistance

Research assistance is available at any time.  There is a dedicated wheel-chair accessible workstation for research assistance at the Crumb circulation desk.  Help options:
