Graduate Student Services

As an enrolled graduate student at SUNY Potsdam, you have full access to both online and print materials in Crane and Crumb and borrowing privileges at the Associated Colleges. Materials that we don’t own may be requested via Interlibrary Loan. You can also get help from librarians with your research.

Crane Music Students

The Julia E. Crane Memorial Library comprises the entire middle floor (plaza level) of Schuette Hall in the Crane complex. Devoted entirely to music, this branch location offers books, journals, magazines, sound recordings, listening equipment, listening rooms, and a computer midi-lab equipped with piano keyboards and other audio equipment. You’ll also have access to the Crane Librarian, Ed Komara, who specializes in music research.

The Crane Library also offers a wide array of online music research tools, including article databases, streaming audio access, and digital sheet music.

Education Students

The College Libraries provide the databases education students need to access the evidence-based research articles and scholarly books required in their classwork. The Sheard Literacy Center, located in Satterlee Hall, also provides resources and educational support.

English Students

The College Libraries provides a variety of resources that will help you with your research.

Borrowing Privileges

Graduate students have the same borrowing privileges as undergraduates at SUNY Potsdam. As students doing advanced research, you may also want to consult the other Associated College's libraries; contact the to obtain information on borrowing privileges.

ILLiad – Interlibrary Loan

If you need a resource that isn’t owned by SUNY Potsdam, you can request it via Interlibrary Loan. Available to all Potsdam grad students, this service can be used when you’ve exhausted Potsdam resources. Most requests do not cost anything; if we encounter a situation where there will be a fee, we will contact you before sending the request.

Most of our databases link directly to our interlibrary loan system.  Requests may also be entered manually from known citations using the “new request” feature to ask for a book, article, DVD, and more. Depending on what you asked for and where it’s coming from, requests can take anywhere from 24 hours to several weeks to arrive. When doing research, plan accordingly and ask for your ILL materials well in advance!

For help with ILL, contact Interlibrary Loan at 315-267-2489, or stop by the ILL office on the first floor of Crumb Library.
