The Paul Steinberg papers are open to all users and available in the reading room of the SUNY Potsdam College Archives & Special Collections. The collection is currently minimally processed, and comprises two series (Written Music & Audio Recordings).

Paul A. Steinberg was a professor at the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam. He was also the director of the Center for New Music Resources at Potsdam. He received degrees from New Mexico State University, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Oklahoma. He studied as a woodwind doubler under names such as Warner Hutchison, Alvin Epstein, Thom Mason and Michael Hennagin.
Steinberg received many awards for his compositions. His works typically combined various woodwind instruments, as well as acoustical and electronic media.
In 1982 he helped establish a group called then New and Unusual Music Artists. In 2012 he and Dr. Alan Woy, a colleague, formed a group called "Symbiotta." The pair released a CD also titled "Symbiotta.”
This series comprises the bulk of this collection, and consists primarily of written music. Many of the pieces are undated, but the majority of the dated pieces are from the1972- 2011. The series includes published scores and sheet music, as well as handwritten and typed drafts of pieces which were either written or arranged by Paul Steinberg. Some contain parts for several instruments or voices.
Additional music materials include audio recordings of a few of Steinberg’s compositions; they come in the form of CD-Rs and reel-to-reel audiotape.
