Circulation and Collection Management Student Positions

At the beginning of each semester, the College Libraries often have student positions open in Circulation and Collection Management.  Students in these positions staff the circulation desk, check out, check in, and re-shelve books, and work on other library tasks as needed.  Applicants may need to work on Friday afternoons/evenings and/or during the weekend.  It is important to note if you have work study as we have more positions funded by work study than other sources.

  • Applicants must fill out the SUNY Potsdam College Libraries Circulation Application.  Please note that part of the application is filling out a grid of your schedule within a Microsoft word document.  You should have your fall semester schedule available and you may wish to apply on a computer rather than a phone.

Technology Help Desk Student Positions in Crumb Library

At the beginning of each semester, the College Libraries frequently seek students who are familiar with both Windows and/or Mac OS to staff the Technology Help desk in Crumb Library.  Applicants may need to work days, evenings, and weekends.  Applicants must have a working knowledge of Microsoft office including: Word, Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint, as well as Moodle and OneDrive.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining public use printers, Print-only stations, Computer workstations, Scanning station, and Loaner Laptops
  • Answer technology related questions pertaining to software usage, Moodle, email, OneDrive, etc., and assist users with their usage
  • Troubleshoot software and log in issues
  • Assist patrons with network issues on personal laptops
  • Various other duties

Graduate Student Building Supervisor at Crumb Library

Description:

  • Applicants must be responsible, hardworking, graduate students with strong people skills, who are authoritative, motivated, and dependable.
  • Shifts will be Sundays through Thursdays 7pm to 1am, divided between 2 supervisors.

Duties:

  • Night time supervision of Crumb Library
    • Monitor all areas of Crumb Library to ensure library and campus rules and policies are being followed by library users at all times
    • Respond to any and all emergency situations
    • Coordinate with Library faculty, University Police, and Physical Plant cleaning staff when necessary
    • Supervise Circulation Department student workers in routine Circulation tasks
    • Provide guidance and answer questions by library users concerning available services
    • Secure all building entrances at closing time
    • Various other assigned duties in coordination with their direct supervisor

Requirements:

  1. Applicants must be a currently enrolled Graduate Student at SUNY Potsdam in good academic standing
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  3. Good organizational skills
  4. Good Leadership qualities
  5. Must be available for nighttime hours

Salary: $15/hr
