DANC 320: 20th/21st Century Dance History: Video Databases

This guide discusses how to find each of the types of sources needed for DANC 320's research paper.

Video Databases

The library has three streaming video databases that you can search for footage of your dance.  They are all found in the alphabetical dropdown box under Databases in the middle of the library's front page.  They are:

  • AVON - Academic Video Online
  • Films on Demand
  • MediciTV - the library will have a trial running only from September 19th to October 19th, so be sure to check it by then!

Try all three, in addition to YouTube, Vimeo, and other online video sources.

The library may also have videos of your dance in the Media collection on the 2nd floor.  Because these are part of the library's physical collection, they'll show up when you do a SUNY Potsdam Library Catalog search, the same way books will.

The Crumb Library also has facilities to watch DVDs and VHS tapes in Room 215.  You do have to reserve the room (do so from the Book a Study Room link at the bottom of the front page of the library's website)--just be sure to select 215 and not one of the other choices.  The video boxes are locked on the shelves, so you'll also need to check it out a the circulation desk on the 1st floor, where they'll unlock the case for you, before taking them to 215 for viewing.
