Crumb Facilities

Frederick W. Crumb Library

The Frederick W. Crumb Library is the main library for the SUNY Potsdam community, and is located in the center of the academic quad within the Lougheed Learning Commons.  A busy and service-intensive place, Crumb Library is always changing in response to what our users tell us they need.

On an average day more than 1200 people walk through the doors, and students and faculty use the Libraries' web site 268,000 times each year.

Our student-centered services unique to Crumb include late night hours Sunday through Thursday, Minerva's Cafe, and group and individual study areas with seating options that range from lounge chairs by a window to study carrels that prevent distractions. Our growing computer setup includes access through our wireless network, 12 laptops to borrow at the circulation desk, more than 60 dual-boot library computers for individual or group use, black & white and color printing, and two scanning stations.

Research help is available 24/7 through our chat service and one-on-one appointments or small group project sessions can be scheduled to help any students with research questions. The Technology Help Desk can help with any "how do I?" question related to computing and printing.

All those services are built around our evolving collections—access to more than 50,000 online journals, 30,000 ebooks, and 400,000 print books. If those resources aren't what our researchers need, our Interlibrary Loan department can get it through partnership with the IDS Project, which provides fast access to millions more items. Crumb Library has also been a member of the Federal Depository Program since 1966, providing print and online access to many federal publications. This library is a congressionally designed depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by public law (Title 44 United States Code). Crumb is also a New York State Depository Library, receiving a limited collection of New York State publications for use by both the college and local communities.
