In terms of information resources, the chemistry landscape has two major organizations and several commercial publishing companies. Note that there is NO OVERLAP among the databases from these providers as each one is providing access only to the material that it publishes. For a comprehensive search, each provider's database needs to be checked. Interlibrary loan can be used to acquire sources for which we do not have immediate access.

Access to articles and publications from these two organizations requires either an institutional subscription to their databases (SUNY Potsdam has a subscription to the ACS archives only for pre-1994 material), or a personal membership. A limited number of publications are made available for open access by these publishers, but it is a very small percentage.
