If you only need a single chapter, rather than the entire book, consider placing an Interlibrary Loan request for just that chapter. We will ask another library to scan it and send us a PDF, which you can access through your ILL account. This will likely arrive much more quickly than the 7-10 days it takes for the book to come in. Just note: due to copyright regulations, libraries are only permitted to scan one chapter of a book, not the entire thing, so don't submit multiple chapter requests from the same book. To order a chapter through ILL, follow these steps:
1. Access your ILL account by clicking on the Interlibrary Loan link on the front page of the library's website.
2. Click Login to ILLiad to access your ILL account.
3. Use the New Requests dropdown to select Book Chapter.
4. Fill out the Book Chapter Request form, providing as much information as possible, including chapter title and page numbers. The more information you can give, the easier it will be for the fulfilling library to find and scan the chapter, and the quicker you'll get it back. If possible, also provide the ISBN (International Standard Book Number), which will allow the ILL system to automate your request, speeding things along even more. See below on how to locate your book's ISBN.
5. To find your book's ISBN, locate the book in WorldCat (see the Ordering from Interlibrary Loan tab in this guide for instructions on how to do so). The ISBN is located in the middle of the catalog entry, next to Standard No. As with this example, WorldCat may provide multiple ISBNs. Select one of the thirteen digit ISBNs--the ones that start with 978. If there are multiple 978 ISBNs for your book, just pick the first one. Paste it into the ISBN field on the Book Chapter Request form and submit your request.
